Spring: The Season of Renewal, Trust & Growth
Objective & Focus: empathy, understanding one another, inspiration
——-
A while ago, I picked up a book called Seasons of Waiting by Barb Hill. It’s 52 devotions described as “an invitation to hope.” The book is divided into the four seasons, and on the first day of Spring, I saw the book sitting on my coffee table and opened it to the Spring chapter. The chapter opens by describing how barren trees begin to bud, how warm breezes comfort us as we lift our faces to the sun. We look around and see physical signs of life—and with that, we feel a growing sense of hope.
Hope. Yes. I need hope.
I’ve been battling mental health struggles for over four years now. I’ve done, and continue to do, everything I can to be truly happy, but I just can’t seem to get there. “Why?” you ask. I have a few ideas.
1 .The Law of Attraction
If there’s one law I swear by, it’s this one. (If you haven’t read The Secret, buy it now.) The Law of Attraction states that you attract what you think. So, if you constantly focus on lack—how you have no money, no success, no joy—guess what? You’ll stay stuck in that cycle. But if you think about abundance, blessings, and positive outcomes, more of that goodness will come your way. Look at the people around you—I bet you can see examples of both.
2. Stuck Between Two Worlds
Seasons of Waiting suggests that we can find ourselves straddling two worlds: the known and the unknown. This limbo creates fear and uncertainty, which can push us into denial. Hill writes, “Denial seems to be the best solution to silence the fear of the unknown.” I take that to mean when we’re scared or overwhelmed, we freeze. We don’t move forward—or backward. We just… stay stuck.
For me (and probably for most entrepreneurs), it’s not fear of the unknown that paralyzes me. It’s the feeling of powerlessness. I’m a perfectionist. Type-A. I like control. I plan everything to a T, and for the most part, life goes according to (*my*) plan. But when my big dreams got derailed—thanks to a shitty client and bad finances—all my visions crumbled. And I still haven’t fully bounced back.
So, why am I still stuck? The truth is, I’m fixating on my lack of control. I can’t accept that things haven’t unfolded the way I meticulously planned. I wasn’t prepared for the “terrible awful,” and now, I’m stuck between two worlds—the current one where negative thoughts still have a grip on me, and the new one where happiness is waiting, just within reach.
Seasons of Waiting reminds me that “waiting for a resolution in our stories involves many moments when we may tire of hoping.” Honestly? I’m not just tired of hoping—I’m numb. I’m cynical. I’m ready and eager for the future I carefully mapped out, but it’s frustrating when that life isn’t ready for me.
So, now what? Whether you’re stuck in denial, fear, or just spinning your wheels in frustration, here’s some food for thought that I try to remember:
We are not the makers of our own destiny. Whether it’s God, The Universe, or something bigger, we have to trust that it knows what’s best for us. (I know. Easier said than done.)
Focusing on what you can’t control is a waste of energy. If you’re fixated on what’s not happening, you’ll stay stuck.
Fear and denial won’t move you forward. Take time to listen to what your mind and body are telling you. Then, make the best decision you can with the information you have—just like you would in business.
Ask yourself, “What’s the silver lining?” What is The Universe trying to teach you? This question has been my lifeline. Focusing on what I’ve learned and how it’s made me a better person is what’s kept me going.
And here’s one more thing that works for me—when I actually do it—practice gratitude. Write a thank-you note to God, The Universe, or whatever higher power you believe in. Thank them for the good things that happened that day and for what’s to come. (Pro tip: The 5 Minute Journal is an amazing resource for this.) If you’re interested in exploring more on the Law of Attraction, I highly recommend diving into Abraham Hicks. The One Thing I Manifested Perfectly
I can’t wrap this up without acknowledging one thing I manifested perfectly—my husband. 🥰 In May of last year, I married the love of my life. I still feel unworthy of him and more blessed than I ever could have prayed to be. Turns out, there is still reason to hope after all.
A Season for New Beginnings
Spring isn’t just about blooming flowers and warmer weather—it’s about renewal. A chance to clear away what’s dead and make space for something new. So, if you’re feeling stuck like I have been, maybe it’s time to let go of the old plans and trust that something even better is waiting to bloom. 🌱
Here’s to hope, growth, and the promise of a new season.
