The Definition of Insanity

When I was doing market research to decide if Hang on Health was viable, I came across a statistic that said 93% of founders would do it all again, even in light of so many forms of suffering. Between that stat, the definition of insane, and my mental health struggles, I’m pretty sure I check the box of literally being insane - at least a little. I mean… Why is it that when I notice a problem, I stew on it until a solution pops in my head, then, for some reason, I think I’m thee one to actually do something about it?!  This has happened three times now in my 38 years on this earth. 🙆🏼‍♀️

The first time I founded a company, I had no idea what I was doing. Live entertainment, specifically country music, is one of the hardest industries to break into. Regardless, I thought it was my life’s calling to open a 1,200 cap country music venue in Washington, DC. After about 2.5 years, I started gaining real traction. My partner and I were so close to landing an investor. Then Covid hit and the deal fell through leaving me heart broken, not to mention a ton of credit card debt. Seven years later, I am still trying to pay it off. (Note to other founders: do not use credit cards to fund your venture. It is not free money!)

The second time I started a company, I had just moved to Nashville. I took my 15 year, in-house, business development experience and created an LLC to consult small businesses and startups on sales, marketing and branding. I couldn’t believe how well it was going. Then, nine months in, that business went up in flames.

Fast forward to today. What did I decide to do? I decided to start a nonprofit to help other entrepreneurs overcome mental struggles like the ones I had (and still do sometimes). I’d call that a little loony! Wouldn't you??

So, here we are. Hang on Health is all about helping entrepreneurs build mental resilience. By equipping you with valuable mental wellness resources like education, community, and coaching, you’re empowered to perform at your best.

In addition, HOH helps businesses foster a workplace culture that prioritizes mental well-being. By putting mental wellness first, companies can expect better work attitudes, higher productivity, and a stronger ability to handle challenges. When entrepreneurs and their teams are mentally healthy, success naturally follows.

With that in mind, I sincerely hope you'll join me in making your mental wellness a priority. The positive effects you'll experience, along with the impact on your business, will be truly profound.

So hang on. We’re just getting started. 🦥
